“Drawing inspiration from the rich heritage of traditional Igbo songs and beliefs, I embark on a musical endeavour – an exploration of grief through the medium of music. This project seeks to create a unique and immersive experience that not only pays homage to the memory of my late brother but also resonates with universal feelings of loss and healing. The project merges ancient traditions with modern expression by blending traditional Igbo cultural influences, including mourning rituals and folk songs, with contemporary electronic music compositions. The result is a testament to the emotional journey of grief, capturing its distinct stages and nuanced complexities. The music project will be presented through a multi-room installation to intensify the emotional impact and foster a shared experience of grief. Participants will navigate through carefully curated rooms, each housing diverse musical compositions that evoke profound emotional responses. Complementing the music, coloured lighting will envelop the listeners, immersing them in the distinct atmosphere of each room and intensifying the sensory experience. As participants move from one room to another, they will encounter different pieces of music, inviting them to reflect on their personal encounters with loss and grief. This shared journey fosters a profound sense of shared humanity and provides a cathartic space for collective healing.“
